  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Fuel Reprocessing Div.

Description

Precise and accurate determination of uranium and plutonium in the input accountability tanks in a reprocessing plant is an essential prerequisite for an efficient Nuclear Material Management programme. The use of isotopic dilution mass spectrometry as the best choice among the various analytical methods available for this purpose is explained. The performance experience with this instrument and the quality of analytical output from it at the central laboratory attached to the PREFRE plant at Tarapur, India, are discussed in some details.
