Technique for highly ionizing particle spectrometry

Description

Described is the technique for highly ionizing particle spectrometry by a proportional counter. In order to keep the counter spectrometry properties in intense fields of weakly ionizing radiation, a stationary corona discharge is formed near the counter anode. Such a spectrometer with the inherent amplification of 103-104, does not require expensive low-noise electronics. The application of the corona discharge, possessing stabilizing properties, makes it possible to avoid the usage of special highly stabilized high-voltage sources. Unlike dielectric detectors-spectrometers, also workable in the intense γ-ray fields, the detector suggested, enables fixing the moment of the investigated particle striking into the detector volume, i.e. it may be used in coincidence circuits, time-of-flight spectrometers and so on
