Neutron capture study on several lutetium isotopes: 'what improvements could be extracted from it for better describing the process in the reaction models?'

Neutron capture studies remain up to now a topic of interest for many domains, from nuclear astrophysics to nuclear reactors physics. These common nuclear reactions are still not well predicted by reaction models, all the more when nuclei are more exotic. In this document, through several experimental results obtained using rare Lutetium targets, we notice which improvements could be made to get better cross section predictions for this process on Lu isotopes. One focus will be done on the surrogate method which is a method to obtain information on neutron induced reactions using transfer or inelastic scattering nuclear reactions. Results from experiments performed at Orsay Laboratory and Texas A.M. University facilities will be described. The work presented here is a fruitful large work from collaborations between US laboratories (LANL and LLNL) and CENBG French laboratory. Finally, prospective on the study of reaction models ingredients like nuclear level density and gamma strength function will be given in order to answer remaining questions. (author)
Abstract (French)
L'etude des reactions de capture neutronique reste un sujet de grand interet pour differents domaines, de l'astrophysique aux etudes sur les reacteurs nucleaires. Ces reactions nucleaires tres courantes restent difficiles a predire notamment pour des noyaux de plus en plus exotiques. A travers les resultats de differentes experiences, avec des cibles uniques de lutetium, nous verrons dans ce manuscrit d'HDR, quelles ameliorations en ont ete extraites pour obtenir des predictions plus pertinentes des sections efficaces de capture radiative pour des isotopes instables du Lu. Un point sur la methode alternative appelee ' methode de substitution' sera aussi donne en mettant en relief les dernieres experiences effectuees au Texas et a Orsay. Le travail presente est le fruit de plusieurs annees de collaboration avec, principalement les laboratoires americains de Los Alamos et de Livermore et le laboratoire CENBG de Bordeaux. Enfin, des perspectives avec des etudes sur les ingredients des modeles, notamment la fonction de force gamma, seront explicitees pour repondre aux differentes questions qui restent en suspens.
