Porosity extension in vicinity of and on grain boundaries in neutron irradiated nickel

Description

Kinetics of nucleation and growth of helium voids on grain boundaries in specimens of polycrystal nickel both after irradiation and after high-temperature annealings is investigated. Specimens of polycrystal commercial nickel (99.5%) were annealed at 800 deg C during 1 hour and then were irradiated by 0.5x1026 and 3.2x1026 neutr./m2 fluences at 400-450 deg C and 0.9x1026 neutr./m2 (En>0.1 MeV) at 550-600 deg C. Some nickel specimens irradiated at 400-450 deg C by 3.2x1026 neutr./m2 were annealed at 700, 750 and 850 deg C during 1-7 hours. The results of electron-microscopic studies of void nucleation on grain boundaries and development of porosity in boundary regions in nickel after fast neutron irradiation and high-temperature annealings are presented
