Initial stages of the radiolysis of 2- and 3-sulfolenes in aqueous solutions
- 1. L.V. Pisarzhevskii Institute of Physical Chemistry (USSR)
Description
The initial stages of the radiolytic transformations of 2- and 3-sulfolenes were studied. A high concentrations, the sulfolenes captured quantitatively the OH, e/sub aq/, and H generated by γ radiation. The position of the double bond in the five-membered ring affected the radiation resistance of the molecule. When the concentration of 3-sulfolene was higher than0.05 M, the sulfone consumption process acquired a chain nature. The most probable participant in the chain initiation was the H atom. The formation of two intermediate species was detected by pulsed radiolysis
