Analysis and design of underground detector halls
Description
Construction has begun on two large underground halls that will house the detectors of the Superconducting Super Collider (SSC). The detector halls will measure 34 meters wide, 110 meters long, with the floor founded 66 to 69 meters below ground surface. A crane hook clearance of about 31 meters is required. Radiation shielding requires a roof cover equivalent to 6 meters of concrete and an equal distance to the adjacent ancillary shafts
