Anti-LPS antibodies to treat radiation sickness

Description
Sickness induced by low lethal doses of radiation kills through mechanisms involving infections with Gram-negative bacteria and their toxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Scientists at the University of Natal have developed anti-LPS antibody preparations (Anti-LPS) which rapidly destroy Gram-negative bacteria and speed the removal of and neutralize the LPS released from the killed bacteria. Anti-LPS significantly improved survival from radiation sickness in mice and may be the basis for treating humans
