Reaction of certain rare earth iodides with carbamide and iodine in aqueous solution

  • 1. Moskovskij Inst. Tonkoj Khimicheskoj Tekhnologii (USSR)

Description

The formation of congruently soluble complex [Eu(ur)5]I3 has been established by studying the solubility isotherm in the system EuI3-ur-H2O at 0 deg C (ur is carbamide). Density, melting and decomposition points are given for [Ln(ur)5]I3 in the series from La to Gd. By studying the solubility isotherms in the systems [Ln(ur)5]I3-I2-H2O (Ln=Sm,Eu) at 0 deg C, the formation has been established in complex polyiodates of lanthanides (LCPI), containing carbamide, of the composition [Ln(ur)5][I11]x10H2O, (LCPI) which dissolve incongruently. Density and thermal properties of LCPI for the series from La to Gd are given
