Influence of radioactive radiations on the Moessbauer spectra of biotites

  • 1. AN Ukrainskoj SSR, Kiev. Inst. Geokhimii i Fiziki Mineralov

Description

Moessbauer spectroscopy was used to study certain features of iron oxidation processes in biotites under the action of radiation. A qualitative interpretation is given of the spectrum of a biotite that was in contact with uranium mineralization. The characteristic Moessbauer quadropole doublet Fe3+ caused by the interaction of the mineral with radioactive radiation is isolated. The role is shown of the energy of radioactive radiation in the formation of the structure and chemical composition of the mineral. The possibility is indicated of assessing the age of uranium mineralization using as a basis the distribution of iron in non-equivalent positions in biotites that have been in contact with uranium mineralization. The data obtained may be used as prospecting criteria for dispersed elements and for the determination of the genetic conditions of formation of deposits of radioactive mineralization. (author)
