Some peculiarities of radiation defects formation in borosilicate glass

Description

The effects of γ-irradiation on a simulated nuclear waste glass were studied by electron spin resonance spectroscopy (ESR) and thermo-stimulated luminescence (TSL). The absolute concentrations of the boron-oxygen hole centers (BOHC) and absolute yields of TSL (g-1 or cm-3) were obtained as a function of irradiation dose (up to 1.7 circ 107 Gy) for two dose rates: 1.67 and 0.39 Gy-g-1. Unusual kinetics of radiation defects formation and the dose rate effects observed are under discussions aiming at understanding the role of ionization damage in the virtual absence of displacement component (α-particles, and recoil nuclei)
