Neutron scattering experiments on nuclear magnets

Description
A two stage nuclear demagnetization cryostat has been constructed for neutron scattering studies of nuclear magnetism at mK, μK and nK temperatures. Sepecial precautions needed in order to perform these ultra-low temperature experiments in a reactor environment are briefly discussed. The use of polarized neutrons and the two-magnet design enables a variety of unique experiments. We present data on the spin-lattice relaxation in copper at very low temperatures and in high magnetic fields. (author)
