Description

The phosphor P31 is shown to be a suitable and convenient detector for spectroscopy in the soft X-ray region. Visible light emitted by the phosphor is detected by a photomultiplier tube. The detector is compatible with vacuum, but does not require it. To illustrate its capabilities, gas phase spectra of CO2 in the region of the oxygen K edge are presented. (orig.)
