Description
In the present study, the effects of X-rays on EL-4 cell doubling time and cell cycle progression were investigated. Cell doubling time in culture was calculated. Propidium iodide (PI) staining and flow cytometer (FCM) were used for cell cycle measurement. The results showed that EL-4 cell doubling time was prolonged significantly after irradiation with doses of 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 or 4.0 Gy. G1 arrest occurred at 72 h after 1.0 Gy and at 12 h to 72 h after 2.0 or 4.0 Gy. G2 arrest occurred at 72 h after 0.5 or 1.0 Gy and at 48h to 72h after 2.0 or 4.0 Gy. S phase cells decreased after 1.0, 2.0 or 4.0 Gy exposure. The authors concluded that 0.5 to 4.0 Gy X-irradiation could induce G1 and G2 arrest for EL-4 cells, which related closely to cell doubling time prolongation
