Comment on the paper 'Linear momentum density in quasistatic electromagnetic systems' by J M Aguirregabiria, A Hernandez and M Rivas

  • 1. Department of Physics, Belarusian State University, 4, F Skorina Avenue, 220080 Minsk (Belarus)

Description

We show that one of the problems, considered in Aguirregabiria J M, Hernandez A and Rivas M (2004 Eur. J. Phys. 25 555-68), contains an error. Namely, under a motion of a point charge near a conducting toroidal solenoid, the effect of the polarization of the solenoid in the electric field of charge should be taken into account. This effect vanishes the electromagnetic linear momentum and recovers the equality of an action and reaction for this problem. (letters and comments)
