Description
At the beginning of this century, ignorant of a possible endangering of the mine underground structure, the Stassfurt potash layer (K2) in the northern field of the Marie mine, in the area of the present Morsleben radioactive waste repository, was worked in deposit part 'H' up to the small distance of between 32 and 38 m below the salt level. There and at four other places of the Marie and Bartensleben mine underground structures, influxes of rock solutions are observed at present. Current data and systematic investigations performed since January 1991 to find out the material composition of those rock solutions, the composition of fluid inclusions in evporite minerals, and the mineralogy of the salt rocks, were evaluated under geological and geochemical aspects in relation to the site, and taking into account the experiences gathered in German potash and rock salt mining. It turned out that in particular the influxes into deposit 'H' as well as the dripping places 'Bunte First' and other influxes require regular inspection and analytical investigation. Geological and geochemical criteria suggest passabilities between the deposit 'H' influx, the cap rock and the cover. Therefore a possible danger to the mine underground structure by the deposit 'H' influx active since 1907 cannot be excluded. The influxes 'Bunte First' and Abbau 1a' also require continuous inspection. The solution influxes 'Bremsbergfuss' and 'Abbaustrecke 5' so far do not suggest immediate danger to the Maria and Bartensleben mine underground structures. Based on the current state of modern evaporite research, the present second report comprises for the first time a complete and comprehensive representation of geological and geochemical connections related to the occurence of solutions in the evaporite body of the Morsleben radioactive waste repository.
