The device for bunch selffocusing
Description
The new device for damping the longitudinal single bunch instability in storage rings is proposed. This simple device is the dielectric canal insert of definite length in vacuum chamber. The structure of wake fields, induced by intensive bunch in such a canal is that, that backward action on bunch particles not only preserves but also decreases bunch length, i.e. leads to bunch selffocusing. The conditions under which this phenomenon reveals itself and can be applied to storage rings are considered. (author)
