Isolite 862/342 Stabilization through Adsorption with Petroset II/342

Description

The Savannah River Technology Center (SRTC) performed tests to determine the capability of Petroset II/256 to stabilize Isolite 862/256. These tests produced the following conclusions.o Petroset II/256 can effectively stabilize Isolite 862/256 as a solid waste in a manner that satisfies the standard Paint Filter test for determination of water content. These results indicate that the material meets 1S manual WAC 3.17 requirements (A.1.b and B.1.b).The two 55-gallon drums of Isolite 862/256 currently stored in H-area will require approximately 400 kg (900 lb) of Petroset II/256 to stabilize the material for disposal.Maintenance of motors and other electrical equipment periodically removed from services in High Level Waste (HLW) facilities generally includes coating the parts with Isolite 862/256 to provide protection of the parts from oxidation. In the process of coating the parts, the Isolite 862/256 material becomes contaminated with low levels of radioactivity. HLW requested SRTC: to determine the capability of Petroset II/256 to stabilize Isolite 862/256 and to determine the amount of Petroset II/256 required to stabilize two 55 gallon drums of Isolite 862/256 material in storage at the 299-H maintenance facility
