Establishing a radiation protection programme for diagnostic CT facility

The radiation protection program for diagnostic CT facility was established to protect workers, patients as well as the general public from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. Therefore, designing an appropriate protection program is essential during the planning and construction of these scanner facilities. In a radiology facility, consideration must be given to the patient, staff, members of the public, and other personnel who may be in the radiology facility including caregivers, comforters of patients undergoing procedures, and persons who may undergo radiological procedures. This work was undertaken to design a radiation protection program for diagnostic CT facility to protect patients, staff, and the public from the danger of ionizing radiation. The Radiation Protection Program covered various issues which included individual monitoring, workplace monitoring, education and training of staff, quality management system and record keeping.
