This paper is an attempt to incorporate the environmental and social costs for large-scale hydro such as loss of forest cover and displacement of people. For nuclear plants, the environmental impacts are officially stated to be minimal in India and therefore the analysis has been confined to a critique of the conventional costing. (author)
