Fuel assembly and mixed oxide fuel rod
Creators
Description
In a fuel assembly for a BWR type reactor in which mixed oxide fuel rods having helium gas filled therein are arranged and held, helium pressure in the mixed oxide fuel rod is reduced, upon production, than that of a uranium oxide fuel rod. At the initial burning, a heat conductivity coefficient of a gap is improved by the filled helium gas, thereby enabling to prevent excess heat expansion of the pellet. Then, if the amount of the generated helium gas is increased, reduction of the heat conductivity coefficient of the gap caused by gaseous fission products can be minimized by the effect of the helium gas and accordingly, the inner pressure of the fuel rod is not increased excessively even at the last stage of the lifetime, to maintain the fuel integrity.
