Origin of the highest energy cosmic rays and the Galactic halo

Description

We show that it is plausible that the highest energy cosmic rays (∼ 3 · 1020 eV) could be iron nuclei, produced by an increased activity in the Galactic Centre more than 105 years ago, and isotropized in the Galactic halo of several tens of kiloparsecs
