Canadian neutron facility - AECL and NRC hold workshop on proposed project
Creators
Description
In 1998, a workshop was held in Ottawa to discuss the proposed Canadian Neutron Facility. The project, jointly proposed by Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and National Research Council, includes a 40 MW pool type reactor with associated neutron beam facilities. It would replace the aging NRU reactor which is the only major source for neutron radiation testing research in the country. NRU is scheduled to be decommissioned in the year 2005. AECL would use the reactor for CANDU research and development while NRC's Canadian Institute for Neutron Scattering would employ the neutron beam facilities in the Neutron Program for Materials Research
