Production of psi (3100) in 400-GeV/c proton interactions

Description

We present measurements of psi production and subsequent dimuon decay from 400-GeV/c proton interactions in an iron target over a range of P/sub t/ from 0 to 4 GeV/c and x/sub F/ from -0.25 to 0.40. The best fits give Edsigma/dx/sub F/ proportional (1-vertical-bar x/sub F/vertical-bar )/sup 2.96tsplus-or-minusts0.27/ and dsigma/dP/sub t/ 2 proportional exp(-2.23 +- 0.05P/sub t/) for P/sub t/>1.2 GeV/c. The observed values of Bdsigma/dyvertical-bar/sub y/=0 and Bsigma are 14.0 +- 2.9 and 22.9 +- 4.7 nb/nucleon, respectively
