Description
It is shown that the magnetic susceptibility of a paramagnetic with nonmagnetic ground state and magnetic excited state lying within the Boltzmann population range reaches its maximum at some definite temperature. The relations between the position and the magnitude of this maximum and the parameters of Van Vleck's formula have been determined. The method has been exemplified by calculating chi (T) course for the U4+ ion in a crystal field of different symmetry. (author)
