Gold nanoparticles for catalytic degradation of dyes

Description

L-asparagine functionalized gold nanoparticles (Asp-AuNPs), prepared by reducing HAuCl4 in presence of NaOH and L-asparagine; characterized by TEM, XRD and UV-visible spectroscopy. Nanoparticles are of spherical shape; uniform size of 10-20 nm and suspension was stable for more than 6 months. Asp-AuNPs were found to be an effective catalyst for reductive degradation of amaranth dye. The degradation reaction followed pseudo-first order kinetics with a rate constant of 0.228 min-1 (author)
