Daily and hourly kinetics of the transformation of 26 - 14C cholesterol into bile acids
Description
The measurement of the rate of transformation of cholesterol into bile acids has been undertaken by a new method. At isotopic equilibrium, the quantity of 14CO2 exhaled by a rat being constant, the determination of the specific radioactivity of mobile cholesterol allows the calculation of the mass of cholesterol transformed daily into bile acids. The various techniques used are described and the obtained quantitative results discussed. When the rats ingest their meal at fixed times, it is found that the daily kinetics of the transformation is not linked to the nycthemeral rhythm, but is linked to the rhythm of the digestive functions
Abstract (French)
La mesure de la vitesse de transformation du cholesterol en acides biliaires a ete entreprise par une nouvelle methode. A l'equilibre isotopique, la quantite de 14CO2 expire par un rat etant constante, la determination de la radioactivite specifique du cholesterol mobile permet le calcul de la masse de cholesterol transforme quotidiennement en acides biliaires. Les diverses techniques utilisees sont decrites et les resultats quantitatifs obtenus discutes. Lorsque les rats ingerent leur repas a des heures fixes, on constate que la cinetique quotidienne de la transformation n'est pas liee au rythme nycthemeral, mais est liee au rythme des fonctions digestives.
