Description

TL dating of the basaltic projections (lapilli) of the Butte de Clermont maar (Chaine des Puys, Massif Central, France) is presented. Xenolithic quartz inclusions were used. Separation was achieved by the usual methods, i.e. magnetic separation, heavily liquid separation and HF etching, followed by flotation in a modified Hallimond cell. Preheating was performed to obtain good plateaux and to isolate the 375 degC peak. Good agreement is found with palynological and chronostratigraphic data. (author)
