Description
Kaiga Generating Station consists of two Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors of 220 MWe capacity each. Unit-2 started power generation from December 2, 1999. Identification and quantification of radionuclides present in the work areas during reactor operation and shut down is essential for incorporating measures to achieve ALARA exposure to plant personnel. A study was conducted to identify the radionuclides present in work areas to meet this objective. The results indicate that the activation products, which were not anticipated during the design, contribute more than expected dose rates in the work environment. The techniques adopted for identification, quantification and estimation of dose contribution by different gamma emitting isotopes in the work environment are discussed in this report. (author)
