Description
Objective: To evaluate curative effect of combined biliary and duodenal stenting in the palliation of biliary and duodenal obstruction. Methods: A retrospective review of 20 patients (17 men and 3 women with an average age of 62 years old) undergoing combined biliary and duodenal stent placement was carried out. In 16 patients, percutaneous transhepatic stenting were performed for obstructive jaundice, and then duodenal stents were inserted (14 through mouth, 2 through gastric fistula) because of secondary duodenal obstruction. Biliary and duodenal stents were placed simultaneously in 4 patients with documented and symptomatic evidence of biliary and duodenal obstructions. Results: All patients showed no evidence of biliary and duodenal restenosis after stenting with survival time from 1 to 14 months (mean 5 months). Conclusions: Combined biliary and duodenal stenting is an effective method for palliation of biliary and duodenal obstructions. (authors)
