Experience of commercial operation and improvement of M-2079 plant for production of high-enriched uranium hexafluoride on military uranium utilization

Description
The process of conversion of military uranium to low-enriched uranium hexafluoride for energy production purpose is schematically represented. Uranium hexafluoride condensation and sorption are studied along with the distribution of such impurity as plutonium over various stages of the process. A new design is proposed for a condenser. A mathematical model of uranium hexafluoride sorption on sodium fluoride is developed. The adequacy of the model to the actual sorption process is confirmed experimentally. The investigation results make it possible to upgrade the quality of the product, to reduce irreversible losses of high-enriched uranium, to increase an uranium conversion ratio, to attain money saving of ≅ 500000 $

Приведена обшая схема переработки оружейного урана в низкообогащенный гексафторид урана энергетического назначения. Изучены процессы конденсации и сорбции гексафторида урана и распределения такой примеси, как плутоний, по различным стадиям технологического процесса. Предложена новая конструкция конденсатора. Разработана математическая модель сорбции гексафторида урана на фториде натрия. Адекватность модели реальному процессу сорбции подтверждена экспериментом. Результаты проведенных исследований позволили улучшить качество продукции, снизить безвозвратные потери высокообогащенного урана, увеличить коэффициент выхода урана, получить экономический эффект ≅ 500 тыс. доллAdditional details
