Description

Full text: Monte Carlo simulation was used to study the variation of the dose descriptors for CT scan (CTDI), both head and body examinations, with the applied tube tension and for different patient dimensions. Ten cylindrical phantoms were defined, covering five ranges of patient's age, from newborn to adult. It is shown that there is a strong dependence of the dose with the kV for all ages, for head examinations. For body phantoms this strong dependence is found only for minor ages. For a given kV, the normalized CTDI reaches a plateau after 2-5 years old. (orig.)
