Transport theories applied to the study of convoy electron production

  • 1. Comision Nacional de Energia Atomica, San Carlos de Bariloche (Argentina). Centro Atomico Bariloche

Description

A transport equation is written for the electrons produced when atomic or ionic beams travers a foil. It is considered that the electrons are produced inside the solid by the electron loss and capture to continumm mechanisms. They lost energy by inelastic collisions with the target atoms and are deflected by elastic scattering. The electron distribution is studied for H0 and H+ projectiles on carbon foils for different thicknesses. A description is made of the electron velocity spectra in the forward direction which agrees with the experiments. Studying the ratio between the intrinsic convoy electron height and the not convoy electron or 'background' intensity, at convoy electron velocity, a constant behaviour for different target thicknesses is obtained.
