High-resolution digital mammography using a planar array charge-coupled device

Description

Two different prototype high-resolution digital x-ray mammographic imaging systems employing planar array charge-coupled device detectors have been constructed. Both prototype imaging units have an ultimate resolution capability of 5 line pairs per millimeter. Each system uses a standard 20-cm/sup 2/ mammographic x-ray intensifying screen. One unit employs a scanning system utilizing a specially manufactured planar array (244 x 380) operating in time delay and integration mode. The other system employs a static array (2,000 x 2,000) with a 2-second integration time. Initial images obtained with both systems and a description of the methodology employed in obtaining the images is presented
