Design Characteristics of Cooling Towers of APR1400 NRC DC Plant

Description
The ultimate heat sink (UHS) and circulating water system (CWS) of the APR1400 NRC DC plant developed for US NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission) standard design certification were conceptually designed as a mechanical draft cooling towers by applying input parameters enveloping all sites of United States. In this study, the cooling tower design characteristics of the US-APWR and US-EPR plants were qualitatively compared and analyzed to determine the size of UHS cooling towers of the APR1400 NRC DC. The capacity of the basins for the UHS cooling towers was determined by calculating the required cooling water capacity (CWC) based on the cooling water evaporation and the drift loss rate for 30 days. The CWS of the APR1400 NRC DC plant was designed with two cooling towers each with 28 cells
