Neutrino and antineutrino electron scattering
Description
νsub(μ)e and anti-νsub(μ)e elastic scattering have been measured in an optical spark chamber exposed to the neutrino, antineutrino beam from the CERN PS: σsub(νsub(μ)e) = (1.1 +- 0.6).10-42Esub(ν)cm2/GeV, σ sub(antiν μ e) = (2.2 +- 1.0).10-42Esub(antiν) cm2/GeV. Consistency has been found with no S,P,T contribution. The data favour a V + A interactions with some V-A mixed in: V-A/V+A = 0.18sub(-0.18)sup(+0.45). The results are in very good agreement with the Salam-Weinberg model: Csub(A) 0.05 +- 0.08, Csub(V) = 0.20 +- 0.15 and sin2THETA sub(W) = 0.35 +- 0.08. There is also a second set of values, Csub(A) = 0.20 +- 0.15, Csub(V) = 0.50 +- 0.08, not favoured by antiνsub(e)e → antiνsub(e)e experimental data. In the general context of SU(2) x U(1) gauge theories the weak isospin of the right-handed electron Isub(3R) = 0 and the isospin of the Higgs boson Isub(phi) = 1/2 are suggested from the best fit to the data.
