Description
The most significant environment problems for many hydroelectric facilities is the quality of turbine discharges. The primary water quality problem is often low dissolved oxygen levels which occur seasonally. Relicensing or rehabilitation of a hydroelectric facility offers an opportunity to address environmental and industrial development concerns over dissolved oxygen levels and other water quality regulations which affect hydropower releases. The AVT represents a promising technology for improving the quality of hydropower releases in a cost-effective manner. This paper describes model studies in progress by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and Voith Hydro for the development of AVT technology
