In vivo measurements of actinide contamination in the lung: a correction for skeletal interference

Description

An in vivo method has been developed that can be used to estimate the amount of a bone-seeking actinide associated with the thoracic skeleton; NaI(Tl-Cs(Tl) scintillation measurements of activity deposited in the skull are used. From this estimate, it is possible to account for the contribution of a radionuclide so deposited to the count-rate that may be obtained over the lung area (anterior thorax). The measurement procedure proposed will thereby allow for more accurate determinations of both the lung and the skeletal burdens
