Dynamics of the distribution of cadmium in the skeleton of rabbits

  • 1. National Veterinary Research Institute, Pulawy (Poland)

Description

To study the dynamics of cadmium distribution in the skeleton of 30 male rabbits 66.7 kBq of 115CdCl2 (1 ml) was given intragastrically and the radioactivities of skull, vertebrae, ribs, and leg bones, and the kidneys, liver and skeletal muscles were determined. The results indicate that Cd-115 concentrations in the liver, muscles, kidneys and bones were increasing up to 6, 12 and 18 d, respectively. The percentage of Cd-115 dose in 1-g ash samples of the kidneys, liver, muscles and bones were 2.5, 0.3, 0.1 and 0.001-0.002, respectively. The highest concentrations of Cd-115 in the bones were found in the ribs followed by thoracic vertebrae, scapular, lumbar, cervical and sacral vertebrae, and scull, humeral, thigh, skin, antebrachial and digital bones.
