Investigating Suspected Natural Sources of Cap and Residues of the Drug in Animal, Plant and Soil Samples in Mongolia

Description
The presence of Chloramphenicol (CAP) in selected, plant, animal and environmental samples, has been investigated using the Enzyme Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay (ELISA) and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) for screening and LC–MS/MS for confirmation. Varying levels of CAP were found in pastures such as Artemisia and Thalictrum species as well as meat and casings. Herbs growing on the Mongolian pastures do not always contain high concentrations of CAP and no single herb family is clearly associated with CAP that could end up in animal products. A large number of root samples contained the drug. However, it is not possible to associate specific plants as the exact sources. (author)
