Determination of pollution by lead using atomic absorption spectroscopy

Description

Lead determination of airborne particulate over Aleppo, factories of the lead metallurgy, batteries industry and printeries was studied. It was found that the amount of lead was maximum (2.314 μg/m3 in summer and 1.214 μg/m3 in winter) in the city center at 14.00 o'clock and 44.64 μg/m3 near lead fusing furnaces in factories and printeries. A new method for determination of lead in blood using atomic absorption spectroscopy was devised. It was found that the 18-36% of fusing workers and 26% of car-drivers were contaminated by lead (Pb > 40μg/100 ml blood). (author)
