Description
Whereas fossil and nuclear energies are in a difficult situation (depletion of resources and pollution for oil, accidents for nuclear), the authors show how scientists are modifying known processes in order to limit CO2 emissions, and are inventing other processes. They also show how to do without fossil fuels by using wind or solar energy, how to develop herbal processes (biofuels), how to make nuclear energy safer, and how, in the future, to use nuclear fusion (the same process as that of the Sun). In the different chapters, the contributions discuss the possible and current evolution of the diversified energy mix, innovations in the field of energy, the issue of transports and of new energy vectors (electric vehicles, hydrogen, batteries for energy storage, the future of ammoniac as a fuel with a null carbon print), R and D industrial policies for the next decades and the expected contributions of chemistry
