The crystal chemistry of oxotantalates M4Ta2O9. 1

Description
Single crystals of (A) Mg4Ta2O9 and (B) Mg2Ni2Ta2O9 were prepared by recrystallisation of a CO2-laser-beam heated flux. Single crystal X-ray structure analysis lead to a trigonal symmetry, space group D3d4-P-bar3c1 with A: a = 5.1654; c = 14.0463 A; B: a = 5.1362; c = 14.0577 A; Z = 2. Both compounds crystallizes with a corund related structure type. In B are the metal positions occupied statistically by Mg2+ and Ni2+. (author)
