Description

This document gathers pieces of information from around the world concerning nuclear industry. The most relevant ones are as follows. The China Nuclear Energy Association foresees an installed capacity of 70 GWe by 2025 and of 150 GWe by 2035 which corresponds to 6 to 7 new reactors per year. The NRC has extended by 40 years the operating license of the Honeywell plant that is the single uranium conversion plant in the Usa. Because of the sanitary crisis due to Covid-19, the fuel loading of the EPR reactor at Olkiluoto has been postponed. Rolls-Royce company and its partners have designed the UK-SMR, a small modular reactor (SMR) with a power output of 400-450 MWe, able to operate for 60 years and whose construction requires only 500 days. Turkey is interested in a fleet of UK-SMR reactors. The NRC has extended the operating life up to 80 years of 2 boiling water reactors (Peach Bottom - unit 2 and unit 3). A feasibility study for the use of SMR reactors in Estonia is being made, based on 4 different designs: SSR-300 from Moltex Energy, the IMSR from Terrestrial Energy, the BWRX-300 from GE-Hitachi and the SMR from NuScale. The final assembly of the JT-60SA tokamak was completed at Naka in Japan in march 2020, the first experiments in the tokamak are expected to take place in september 2020. (A.C.)
