Description

35Cl nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate (NSLR) and magnetic susceptibility (χ) measurements are reported for Sr2CuO2Cl2 single crystals as functions of temperature and of magnetic field intensity and orientation. From the anisotropy of the 35Cl NSLR and χ we obtained evidence for a crossover of the Cu2+ spin correlations from Heisenberg to XY-like at T∼290 K. For H parallel c the 3D antiferromagnetic transition is at TN=257 K and is field independent while for H parallel ab TN increases to 265 K at H=8.2 T. The field-dependent TN for H parallel ab is explained by a field-induced Ising-like anisotropy in the ab plane
