Nuclear applications with the TRIGA reactor of the Istanbul Technical University

  • 1. Istanbul Technical Univ. (Turkey). Inst. for Nuclear Energy

Description

The Institute for Nuclear Energy of Istanbul Technical University has a 250 kW TRIGA Mark II research and training reactor. Neutron radiography can be performed at the tangential beam tube of the reactor by direct and transfer techniques. Gamma radiography can be performed at the piercing tube just after shutdown. The configurations of the beam tubes and procedures of application of the radiographic techniques are described. A comparison of neutron and gamma radiography is presented. Samples can be irradiated in the central thimble of the reactor for neutron activation analysis. A rabbit system can be used for analysis of short lived isotopes. Production of radioisotopes for industrial applications is carried out in the laboratories of the institute. (author). 7 refs, 10 figs
