Distribution of α, β Total Radioactivity and Radionuclides inWater, Sediment and Macrobenthics of Cirebon and Losari Coastal Area

Description
The radioactivity and radionuclides of environmental in water sedimentand macrobenthics of Cirebon and Losari coastal have evaluated. The samplesconsist of water bottom surface sediment and macrobenthic (Mytilus Viridis.L). The result showed that the activity of natural samples was very low. Thegross-α and gross-β activity from water environment are lower thanthe threshold value of PPRI No.20/1990 and indicated that α- andβ-radioecological quality of water is still good. The sediment andmacrobenthic (gross) activity are higher than water activity and indicatedthat transfer of radionuclides from water to sediment and organism can bedetected in water environment. The γ-spectrometry technique couldidentify five natural radionuclides 208TI (540 KeV), 40K (1460,7 KeV),212Pb (238 KeV), 214Pb (351 KeV), 210Pb (46 KeV). The existence ofnatural radionuclides (no fission and activation product) indicated thataquatic environment was in good condition from the ecological aspect. (author)
