Description
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has begun a transition from the process-oriented regulation of the past to a more results-oriented approach to regulation, which takes into consideration risk and plant performance. This type of regulation maintains or improves safety and gives each licensee the flexibility to determine the most efficient way to meet the requirements. The Maintenance Rule, which takes effect on July 10, 1996, is a results-oriented rule that mandates consideration of risk and plant performance
