Aging effects in low pressure wire chambers containing TMAE
Description
The effects of aging in multiwire proportional chambers operated at low pressure with gas mixtures containing TMAE has been studied in connection with their use as a form of readout for BaF/sub 2/ crystals in high rate environments. Aging was induced by μv light which simulated high radiation exposure to BaF/sub 2/ crystals. Measurements were made on the loss in gain as a function of the total charge removed from the anode wires under various operating conditions. The results indicate a considerable improvement over previous aging effects measured at atmospheric pressure
