Estimation of the accuracy of underground nuclear explosion power determination by a seismic method at known conditions
Description
The problem of estimation accuracy of underground nuclear explosion power by a seismic method at known geologic structure and depth is considered. The acoustic hardness of the explosion enclosing ricks is suggested to be used as a characteristic sufficient in the first approximation for determining the yield of explosion seismic power. Empirical dependences of seismic signal magnitude on explosion power with account for this characteristic are derived. It permits to combine all existing dependences for different soil types into a general one. the resulting power estimation errors are analysed. It is concluded that the considered seismic method is applicable to control the execution of the Trety on the Underground Test Limitation, which provisions include exchange of geological and geophysical data sufficient to determine the acoustic hardness of rocks. In this connection it is not necessary to make the requirements for accurate characteristics of proving ground rocks, included in the Treaty protocol of 1974, more stringent
