The modification of the flexibility of radiation crosslinked PE by blending PE with EVA and CPE

  • 1. Radiation Chemistry Research Inst., Jilin City, JL (China)

Description

Polyethylene (PE) is used as an insulation material for wires and cables because of its excellent electrical properties. Most of the properties of PE are improved greatly after irradiation, but, it will harden and split easily in low temperatures. Ethylene-vinyl acetate polymer (EVA) and chlor-poly-ethylene (CPE) possess good flexibility. Blending of EVA/PE, CPE/PE systems were performed individually. Suitable radiation doses and percentages of EVA/PE, CPE/PE have been determined to overcome splitting of tubes after shrinkage. (author)
